Description: 1787 New Jersey, Nova Caesarea, copper, outline to shield. The obverse shows the horse's head, to the right, above the plow, to the right. The legend around the upper half is "NOVA CAESAREA". The date, 1787, is below the plow, at the bottom center. The reverse shows a U.S. type shield. This variety shows the shield clearly has an outline around it also. The legend around the border is "E PLURIBUS UNUM". This was the first coin type the motto appeared on, and translates "FROM MANY, ONE". Overall color is medium to dark brown, with the raised lettering and design features being the lighter color against the darker fields. The couple of light marks on the shield are only typical for the age and circulation.
