In 1819, the young 23-year-old Johann Bar (John Baer, or John Bear) of Lancaster County's printed this substantial work which was the largest German-language Bible printed in America to that date. Despite the numerous subscribers listed on five preliminary pages in four-column format, he was nearly bankrupted by the enterprise. Original glossed leather over wooden boards with aggressively thick raised bands to spine, reverse beveled edges, lacks straps/clasps.Illustrated with 2 engraved frontispiece plates by John Henry.
