1911 Watchtower Convention speaker Benjamin Barton with a Beard! Picture Jehovah

Description: Here is an Original RARE 1911 Convention Picture from the 1911 Souvenir Notes Bible Students Convention Report. This is a double-sided printed picture that was once part of the 1911 Convention Report. I have some of these pictures in frames on my wall and when the friends come over they love seeing them! They are a good reminder of our spiritual heritage. The picture of Brother Benjamin Barton makes a nice gift to anyone you may know who is growing a beard! On each side of the page is a different picture. On this one you find: Side 1: A beautiful full-page picture of Benjamin Barton who was one of the 1911 Convention Speakers and a Pilgrim who also has a nice beard! Here is a little bit of what has been written about : 1975 Yearbook p. 49 Part 1—United States of America Doubtless many of the pilgrims endeared themselves to their fellow believers also because they made themselves “at home” when visiting. “What made the visit so pleasant?” asks Mary M. Hinds. She answers: “Greetings dispensed with, the pilgrim questions daddy as to the public meetings, whether or not he has any questions about the articles in The Watch Tower, how things are moving along in the little town, if anyone else is showing interest since the last visit, and other routine questions. For a little while his attention is directed to us children (three of us now) before he retires to his room. ‘Isn’t he nice! He talks to us!’ We are thrilled and off to a good start to enjoy every minute of his stay, usually one or two days. Maybe it is Benjamin Barton who has given me a picture postcard that he brought from the 1910 Chatauqua Lake convention, and he has pasted his picture on the back of it. Or perhaps Brother J. A. Bohnet has made my brother a kite and is helping him fly it. . . . Brother A. H. Macmillan may take a moment to go out to the cornfield with us and select six nice ears of corn for his dinner.” 2012 Watchtower 8/15 p. 31 On the Road With the Pilgrims Benjamin Barton’s 1905 itinerary had some 170 stops Here is some information about the Brothers who served as Pilgrims: Proclaimers book chap. 15 p. 222 Development of the Organization Structure Then, in 1894, arrangements were made for the Society to have well-qualified speakers travel more regularly to help the Bible Students to grow in knowledge and appreciation for the truth and to draw them closer together. If possible, the speaker would spend a day or perhaps several days with a group, giving one or two public discourses and then visiting smaller groups and individuals for discussion of some of the deeper things of God’s Word. An effort was made to have each group in the United States and Canada visited twice a year, though not usually by the same brother. In selecting these traveling speakers, emphasis was placed on meekness, humility, and clear understanding of the truth as well as loyal adherence to it and ability to teach it with clarity. Theirs was by no means a paid ministry. They were simply provided with food and lodging by the local brothers, and to the extent necessary, the Society helped them with travel expenses. They came to be known as pilgrims. Many of these traveling representatives of the Society were dearly loved by those whom they served. A. H. Macmillan, a Canadian, is remembered as a brother to whom God’s Word proved to be “like a burning fire.” (Jer. 20:9) He just had to talk about it, and he did, speaking to audiences not only in Canada but also in many parts of the United States and in other lands. William Hersee, another pilgrim, is fondly remembered because of the special attention that he gave to young folks. His prayers also made a lasting impression because they reflected a depth of spirituality that touched the hearts of young and old alike. Side 2: A full-page picture of P.S. L. Johnson who was one of the 1911 Convention Speakers --- This is an original printed picture (NOT a reproduction) that came out of a 1911 Souvenir Notes Bible Students Convention Report.
