Description: 1948 Vintage Wire Press Photo.Charles E. Taylor, 81, mechanic for the Wright brothers who helped in the creation of man's first airplane flight, looks at a souvenir of the "Kitty Hawk" at his home in Los Angeles. He said he was invited to attend the official welcome of the plane back to American soil after 20 years exile in England, at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington tomorrow but that his health would not permit the cross-country trip. His souvenir is several pieces broken off the plane when wind overturned it after its fourth flight December 17, 1903. Charles Edward Taylor was an American inventor, mechanic and machinist. He built the first aircraft engine used by the Wright brothers in the Wright Flyer, and was a vital contributor of mechanical skills in the building and maintaining of early Wright engines and airplanes.
