These shirts were designed to commemorate the initial set-up, proof of concept, and configuration of the Functional Ground Test (FGT) system conducted by the Boeing & Raytheon companies. The United States Air Force Global Strike Command’s Nuclear Weapons System Evaluation Program, known as “NucWSEP,” evaluates the state of readiness of the AGM-86B Nuclear Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) currently part of the Strategic Nuclear Triad. Several evaluations are conducted every year via both live launches from a B-52 carrier and Functional Ground Test (FGT) "launches", as the name implies, on the ground. During the Functional Ground Test launches, the ALCM is “flown” on a ground stand in a test cell at the McKinley Climactic Chamber on Eglin AFB, Florida, with temperatures ranging from -55 degrees to +120 degrees to simulate those experienced in free flight. A high speed fan sits in front of the missile to provide air to the ALCM's turbofan engine, and a load on the missile control surfaces. The 'ACM' embroidered on this shirt refers to the AGM-129 Advanced Cruise Missile which was a part of the initial FGT program. However, that missile is no longer in the picture due to its reliability issues and higher maintenance costs. In March 2007, the USAF made the final decision to decommission its entire inventory of AGM-129s with the last missile being destroyed in April 2012. (Not a great loss, because pickles were never meant to fly backwards) So, now you know...
