Mappin & Webb is a jewel in British pride, drawing on over 241 years of silver and jewelery tradition and historical significanc Maintains. For two centuries they have created exquisite jewellery, elegant silverware, watches, glassware and unique lifestyle accessories with superior quality and contemporary design. The history of this amazing company is as interesting as the items it makes. Jonathan Mappin opened a silver workshop in 1775 to produce the most beautifully crafted silverware in Sheffield. Within a year, the Mappin Hallmark was registered in the Assay Office and in 1780, Jonathan Mappin was also given the freedom of the Cutler Company. After Jonathan, his son and then his grandson Joseph Mappin continued this tradition. In 1849, Joseph Mappin opened his first London showroom at 15 Fore Street. After that, due to differences with the brothers, he started a new business with his brother-in-law George Webb while Mappin Brothers Limited continued to be run by the other brothers.
