Description: For your consideration, from the first 1" marble run produced on the old Vitro Agate 1" machine by JABO, Inc. in 1995, a very rare, now vintage, natural mica frit sprinkle marble. These were also JABO's first frit marbles produced. It has been discussed with Richard McKnight, the machine operator, that maybe a hundred or so of these were attempted and maybe fifty or so turned out nice, and with no cold roll or fractures. I can only attest for twenty-nine accounted for, nineteen of which sat on Dave McCullough's desk, in a jar among an array of color schemes produced in the run. That jar sat there from 1995, through 2012, until they became a part of my collection. This is one from the Jar. I only have a few remaining to offer up. This is one of the better ones. It measures 31/32" and is basically in mint condition, as no cold roll or damage is visible, though the surface is not smooth due to the unmelted mica and occasional debris inclusion from the mica matrix. The base glass is transparent cobalt blue, a bit visible in the last photo. It backlights very nicely. The back story: 'DT Special' is derived from the name, David Tamulevich. Dave, a long-time marble enthusiast and folk singer, while traveling through Vermont, stopped on the side of the road where he noticed mica shist in the hillside cut, visible in the wall and pieces laying on the ground. He gathered up some chunks and on his next trip to JABO, offered it to Dave McCullough to crush and apply to marbles. The first of these offered up many years ago, fetched well over $300. I decided to lower the bar and have offered them for from $200 to $220 to the serious JABO collectors. R.I.P. Dave McCullough, who's passing Oct. 13th, 2024, ends another chapter in marble history, whom Dave was key in many. From Champion Agate, to JABO, Inc., to Sammy's Mountain Marbles, to Dave's Appalachian Swirls, Dave played a hands-on role in the making of Millions of marbles for decades, as well as inspiring and helping others in the contemporary marble fields. Many other lives were greatly affected and influenced by his creations, as well. Shipping discounts always apply.
