Description: This Excellent late 1940s Vintage DOBBS Beaver Twenty Fedora, size 6-7/8++ to 7 (read below). This is a REAL LOOKER! This is a very Dark Gray Color. We keep trying to get a picture of the actual color but it’s been a real challenge! Either it comes out a brownish or black. It is a very dark Gray color. We added a picture we had my grandson take a few pictures today from a distance and them he “Cropped” it to blow it up again. See that picture that looks like at closeup, picture number 4. It’s a Dark Gray and we still don’t seem to get it 100% correct. We did try our very best though. No Hat Box included in this sale, read below. No inserts and breaking. This is hat that you’d find in all those ageless 1940s Crime Movies! Well in lots of 1940s movies! The Sam Spade fedora or Humphrey Borgart styled movies too. OLD ORIGINAL NOTE: The color is Dark Gray. We don’t know why it doesn’t come out consistently but the picture looking down from the top of the whole hat is the best representation of the color. A bit darker than that pictures. Dating was easy! The fact that this liner cover has NO plastic liner cover dates this to pre-1948. In 1948-1949 Dobbs and many other manufacturers started using an “Onion Skin”, that started in 1948 and discontinued by 1950 when DOBBS and others started using a thin plastic liner cover and that made this easily identified as a pre 1948 fedora hat! This currently has been shaped into a “teardrop, pinched crown” fedora because that Beaver Twenty allows this to easily shaped! If you’d like a “center dent” steamed into this hat so you may do your own “hand bashing” you will need to write to us so dad can steam that shape into this fedora. Dad believes that this shape was just a very sharp look for this fedora! Pictures say much more about this great DOBBS fedora! We took all angles and this is also part of the description. If you have any questions please write to us. NOTE: the original oval hat box is being sold with the second hat that was found inside this hat box. So NO hat box in this sale. This is a VINTAGE Beaver TWENTY and It’s nothing like what you would compare to anything post 1960! Just touching this great hat and you can feel how very soft and thick beaver, soft and thick and so easy to shape! If you have any questions please write us. Ok now the particularsWe found no size tag but we measure each hat that’s sold 3 times, using different methods to verify the actual size and this actually measures to a size 6-7/8++ at 21-7/8 inches, it’s a fraction under a perfect size 7 by an 1/8 of an inch. So a perfect 6-7/8 is 21-5/8 inches and a perfect size 7 is 22 inches. This is an 1/8 of an inch smaller than a perfect size 7 and any inexpensive Amazon $14 hat stretcher will work to stretch this great fedora. It just takes time and patience. You can write to us if you need help with instruction on how to get this done. My grandson says that there are videos on the internet on how to do it also but feel free to write to us and ask. We use the Tilley hat size chart. This chart is still in use today. It’s still very elastic and has enough extra sting so it can be sewn to the fedora by any decent tailor or you can just trim the end of the extra string and use it as for decoration purposes only.
